Cuban diplomat to address New Yorkers on the 50th Anniversary of Cuba’s  Rebellion Day-the Moncada Barracks Attack on Saturday July 26th -6PM at the  Martin Luther King Jr. Labor Center, 310 West 43rd Street Manhattan (off 8th  Avenue).

New York, New York—July 22, 2003—The New York July 26th Coalition invites one and all to an evening of culture, politics, poetry and dance on the 50th  anniversary of the historic 1953 attack on the Moncada Garrison- an event which sparked the Cuban Revolution. Keynote speakers will be a  representative from Cuba’s Mission to the United Nations and venerated  Puerto Rican revolutionary hero, Rafael Cancel Miranda.

Join, noted African-American Poet Laureate' . Young Puerto Rican poet  Mariposa and many more in this evening of solidarity for the Cuban people and their revolution. And dance to the Afro-Cuban and spicy Salsa sounds of  Alfredo Feliciano and his 7 –piece Latin Jazz Band!

On this day – the 50th Anniversary of the birth of the July 26th Movement –  we join thousands throughout the country and around the world who want  normal relations between the United States and Cuba.

While pundits and analysts attempt to spin the exposure of lies used to  justify an invasion and occupation of Iraq, many throughout the world wonder  just how far Washington might go in its ongoing campaign against the Cuban revolution. Last month the New York Times reported state Department Chemical  and Biological Weapons expert, Christian Westermann’s testimony before a House Intelligence Committee hearing that Undersecretary of State for Arms Control, Jon Bolton, pressured him to tailor his intelligence reports on Cuba to conform with the Bush Administration’s views.

Nevertheless, bi-partisan support for a saner Cuba policy continues to grow  on Capital Hill as farmers and business call for an end to the 43 –year-old  US trade and travel blockade of the island. We in the New York July 26th Coalition endorse that call!

Spend an evening in solidarity with Cuba. Join many throughout the world who  say on this special occasion – U.S. HANDS OFF CUBA!
