On Thursday, tens of thousands of people will march on the
Grand Hyatt Hotel, where Donald Trump is scheduled to speak at a Republican fundraiser.
What unites thousands of protesters – both among leaders in the Black Lives Matter movement, migrant rights groups fighting deportations, and more who have been joining anti-Trump Facebook pages by the thousands – is the need to SHUT DOWN TRUMP and his incitements of racist, anti-immigrant and anti-woman violence.
Civil disobedience trainings and direct-action tactics have been in the planning for weeks. There are multiple feeder marches, from thousands of Fight-for-$15 workers to smaller gatherings from Queens to the New York Public Library.
One thing is clear – on Thursday, things will not go as planned for Trump and the Wall Street-backed Republican fat cats. One way or another, on Thursday tens of thousands of people will shut down Trump’s racist message!
Also scheduled to speak that night are Ted Cruz and John Kasich – also right-wing republican candidates. Many this week are protesting the racist mass-incarceration policies promoted by Hillary Rodham-Clinton. The call to Shut Down Trump is not aligned with any of the big-business candidates, none of whom represent our interests.
Sanders’ campaign has electrified many looking for a way to vote against Wall Street. But what the righteous Chicago shutdown of Trump’s rally showed was that the best answer to a racist mobilization is for the people to act in their own interests and put a stop to it.
Like racism itself, Trump is the enemy of all workers. He’s a billionaire real estate mogul who evicted rent-stabilized tenants for the few dollars he didn’t actually inherit. His rallies and his rhetoric make it unsafe for Muslims and any people of color to not only attend his rallies but to walk the streets.
ON APRIL 14
TAKE A STAND AGAINST RACISM
