| Invitation to 2016 National Conference R E G I S T E R H E R E Nov. 11-13 New York CityNo Matter Who Wins the Election … Why We Must Keep Fighting for SOCIALISMDear Sisters and Brothers,Every day we wake up to news of another Black person murdered by a cop. We hear of another migrant youth being threatened with deportation. We read stories about how young people are asking for too much simply by demanding a livable income, housing, and education. But still we are expected to make our way to our underpaid, low-wage jobs and to sit in our classrooms as school resource officers police our bodies. We walk in our communities fearing that we could be the next Black person killed or the next immigrant deported, the next queer or trans person brutalized, the next woman sexually assaulted, the next Muslim afraid of being racially profiled, or the next person fired, evicted or displaced. We also witness climate change destroying the planet.Why is this? Why has this become normal? More and more the veil is being pulled back. The more racism and Islamophobia we witness, the more homophobia and sexism we experience, we realize that capitalism is not working. The current system is failing us – and is desperately trying to maintain the social order through its murderous cops, corrupt politicians, and greedy bosses. We may be under attack, but we are also incredibly resilient. From Ferguson, Mo., to Baltimore, Pasadena, Calif., to New York City, Standing Rock, N.D., to Milwaukee, and Charlotte, N.C., to Philadelphia, we are in rebellion against a crooked system, which is trapping us in lives we no longer want to live. We are saying Black lives matter, end the deportations, abolish the police and ICE, housing, free education and health care for all, reparations, and a livable income and union jobs. We are demanding it all. We are demanding the things we know capitalism cannot and will not give us – but victories can be achieved through struggle. Many of us are disillusioned by the current state of things, but we have no illusions that things will get better on their own. Not only do we organize, we fight as if this were a war – a war on Black lives, a war on workers and oppressed people. As our battles intensify, many of us are looking for the space to think about how we must organize ourselves for the next phase – how we must convene our movement as the presidential elections will soon be over. Also, how we must build with each other and commit to solidarity – because so many people depend upon it: the Black Lives Matter movement, immigrant families, the LGBTQ community, women and the working class. On Nov 11-13, many of us are convening in New York City for the annual Workers World Party conference, at the historic Malcolm X and Betty Shabazz Memorial and Education Center, at 3940 Broadway (West 165th Street) in Manhattan. This will be a gathering of revolutionaries, activists, organizers, and community members who are fed up and say “No More!” to the cruelties of capitalism and its innate racism, homophobia, sexism, Islamophobia, ableism and more. This conference is for those who are struggling to make sense of this election chaos, who are questioning the establishment, and who need to re-energize after a long year of battle. It will also take up why the multinational working class – our class – must and will prevail It is important to make plans quickly: Conference organizers need to arrange for adequate housing, meals and more.
