PRIDEThe miners struggle in the UK in the early 80s was a heroic struggle against a right wing government bent on crushing them. And while they ultimately were unsuccessful, the campaign proved highly successful in terms of solidarity. It was during this campaign that LGBTQ militants came to the aid of the workers against a common enemy, and the workers learned to overcome the chauvinism that was blocking them from uniting with their comrades in struggle.In addition to a screening and discussion,
we’ll also hear a short presentation from
Shelley Ettinger, former Workers World newspaper managing editor and a founder of the
Lesbian and Gay Labor Network in 1986.Solidarity Center
