Nov. 18-19: Invitation to a revolutionary conference

Nov. 6, 2017

Dear friend,

This year the election of the most rightwing, racist chief executive in U.S. imperialism’s history has driven contradictory forces and changed the political landscape in the U.S.

Trump’s inauguration, attacks on migrants, warmongering against Peoples Korea, Syria, Venezuela, China and even Russia, a genocidal lack of assistance in Puerto Rico, has been challenged by growing resistance in many new and creative forms from mass protests at airports, pulling down racist statues to taking a knee in defense of Black Lives Matter.

This year the 2017 National Workers World Conference will provide time and thought for a desperately needed revolutionary perspective. We have a program of insightful speakers and hundreds of revolutionary youth from across the country gathered under one roof.

Historical circumstances demand so much of us and our movement.

In the midst of a Trump regime inflicting terror and pain on the working class and oppressed worldwide, 2017 has been a year of historic fight back against capitalist reaction. Starting on January 20th, many thousands gathered in the streets of DC against everything Trump represents, and the struggle has continued despite new levels of repression. Charlottesville, VA was a powerful symbol of revolutionary fighting spirit where we joined determined forces confronting white supremacy. The events in Durham, just two days later – when our comrades toppled a confederate statue – was a testament to a new level of confrontation.

The centennial of the Russian Revolution gives us a critical framework to discuss lessons of dynamic change for today’s revolutionaries.

Many of the young activists and militants fighting to make Black Lives Matter, or defend migrants and Muslims were not yet born when the Soviet Union ended. Corporate power then proclaimed the “end of history” and declared capitalism the winner. But resistance to the decay and rot of capitalism and the uprisings against white supremacy are a clear sign that history is just beginning and the future belongs to Revolution.

This year’s Workers World conference will be held in Newark, NJ to salute the 50-year anniversary of the Newark Uprising against racist police violence.

In this spirit, we would like to invite you to Newark, NJ on November 18th and 19th to join with Workers World in discussions, panels, workshops and cultural presentations focused on building greater unity and a new level of solidarity in our movement for revolutionary change.

Revolutionary greetings,

Ben Carroll    Taryn Fivek    Mond Jones  Loan Tran
