NYC: Sunday, Jan. 28th: GABRIELA NY for Rise & Resist Tyranny: Women Unite for Liberation!

Join GABRIELA New York this Sunday, 1/28!

Let’s #RiseInSolidarity as we kick off our One Billion Rising campaign and Philippine Solidarity Week. RISE against fascism, RESIST the militarization of our lands, communities, and bodies, and UNITE for self-determination!

In November 2017, two GABRIELA NY delegates embarked on an exposure trip to Mindanao. Join us for May and Vijou’s reportback on the plight of the displaced Moro people, their struggle for self-determination, and how women and people’s resistance play a vital role in the true liberation of the Filipino people! To amplify the voices of the impacted communities, we are also holding a film screening of DEFEND, a documentary on life under martial law. Finally, this event is a fundraiser for the next international solidarity mission—to continue GABRIELA NY’s fight for human rights in the Philippines!

Rise & Resist Tyranny: Women Unite for Liberation

Expo Reportback, Fundraiser, Film Screening

Sunday, January 28th

4-7 PM

San Damiano Hall

127 W 31st St., NYC

Experience cultural performances, food and refreshments, join the raffle for special prizes, pick up a copy of LAKAS zine and other GAB NY items for sale.

All funds from this event will go toward supporting the next exposure trip.

Suggested donation is $10-$20 on a sliding scale, no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Childcare will also be provided upon request.

We are proud to present DEFEND—a documentary on martial law in Mindanao and its effects on the Moro, Lumad, and farmers. Hear the stories of Mindanaoans as they challenge the government’s narrative that there are no human rights violations under martial law.

As the Philippine people struggle against the onslaught of human rights violations under Duterte, it is imperative to connect with the conditions on the ground.

Three of our members are preparing to continue this mission: to listen and learn from communities directly impacted by martial law, to integrate with our people’s struggle, and to share their findings to inform our fight for genuine peace and liberation in the Philippines.

Because GABRIELA NY is a grassroots organization, and we run completely on the collective power of volunteers, we need your help!

DONATE TODAY!

GAB NY members, Dinah, Jamy, and Julie, will join an International Fact Finding and Solidarity Mission (IFFSM) with the International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines (ICHRP) as a response to the intensifying human rights violations, militarization, state repression, and extrajudicial killings happening in the Philippines.

Our goal is to raise $4,750 for their travel, program fees, and day-to-day expenses. No donation is too small, and sharing across social media counts! Help us fight for human rights in the Philippines!

In power and solidarity,

GABRIELA New York
