Comrades, friends and allies –
Yesterday three Venezuelan diplomatic sites – one in New York and two in Washington, D.C. – were seized by the reactionary forces of Juan Guaidó. Many of us also heard about the incredible fightback unleashed by activists in response to these illegal seizures. Dozens of people mobilized with just an hour’s notice to confront these imposters. Not everyone can mobilize at a moment’s notice, however, and some might feel concerned seeing staged PR images printed in U.S. government publications like VOA.
We are writing to assure you that momentum is in our favor.
In New York, dozens of network activists stood in the cold until 10pm, chanting past the NYPD that theirs was an illegal seizure in service to imperialism and white supremacy. In Washington D.C., dozens more assembled to call out these trespassers protected by the U.S. war machine in broad daylight. This show of popular support for Venezuela’s sovereignty has not gone unnoticed.
Today, in response to our fightback and international outrage, coup supporters stood outside the consulate in New York and posed with Venezuelan flags. They led media on a tour of their destruction, having taken down photos of Nicolás Maduro and Hugo Chávez and replaced them with the spirits of Donald Trump and John Bolton.
This is a pathetic attempt at a PR war that they can’t win. Venezuelan people, people of Latin America, of the United States, of the Western Hemisphere; we are all rallying in support of Venezuela. From the impressive day of global action on February 23rd to the mobilization in Washington D.C. this past weekend, resistance to this imperialist onslaught is building.
This Thursday at 7pm eastern, the No War on Venezuela network and the International Action Center are welcoming back network activists from a delegation from Venezuela. We will also take this opportunity to propose next steps around these recent developments.
