FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Al-Quds Day Demonstration in Times Square in Support of the Oppressed People of Palestine Calls for the End of Racism, Wars and White Supremacy
May 31, 2019 – Al-Quds Day Committee of Muslim Congress is holding a protest in Times Square, New York today to commemorate the annual International Day of Al-Quds in support of the oppressed Palestinian people.
The word, “Al-Quds” is Arabic for Jerusalem and its environs, the Holy Land. The International Day of Al-Quds is a day of solidarity with the oppressed and innocent civilian population in Palestine in their struggle against the racist and oppressive Zionist-Apartheid Regime in Israel. Al-Quds Day events are held in cities across the world, including many cities in the US, Canada and the UK. Muslim Congress currently coordinates an effort to organize peaceful Al-Quds Day events in over 30 cities in the US.
This year’s event will focus on oppression all over the world including Yemen, Syria, Nigeria and China among the Uighur Muslims population. The event will draw light to the political polarization that has created an opportunity for violence and contributed towards the rapid rise of white supremacy which has resulted in a rapid surge of hate crimes towards minorities including African Americans, Latinos, Muslims and Jews. Our goal is to send a peaceful message by strongly condemning war against Iran and any other country all over the world. Al-Quds Day is a peaceful effort to expose the Zionist agenda that is attributed to the rise of widespread Islamophobia and the rise of crimes committed due to this newfound awakened sense of supremacy.
The rally will take place at 42nd Street and Broadway at 5 PM on May 31st, 2019. We request your presence and coverage of this event highlighting the plight of the Palestinian people.
