Venezuela — like China, Iran, Cuba and so many other countries under siege by the United States — is one of many links in the chain of international proletarian revolution. To paraphrase China’s Chairman Mao Zedong, the Venezuelan people stood up in 1999, proclaiming that from that day forth, they would be the masters of Venezuela’s destiny, not international capital.
Since then, the People’s Republic of China has held close relations with Venezuela. Before the U.S. invasion of Venezuela on Jan. 3, China opposed, on the world stage, imperialist-backed calls for an election to oust President Nicolás Maduro. Between 2019 and 2023, China assisted Venezuela with funding that helped to take it from a nation under threat of an imperialist coup to one which agreed to have China help train its astronauts, striving for a space program that would accelerate existing regional efforts to conduct space research.
Most recently, China has been incredibly outspoken in its opposition to the acts of war perpetrated by the U.S. in Venezuela in 2025 and 2026, urging the U.S. to pursue a peaceful course of action, and sending a delegation to the country a mere day before the president and First Combatant Cilia Flores were illegally kidnapped and taken to the U.S. China’s commitment to safeguarding Venezuela’s sovereignty will undoubtedly be proven as the U.S. continues to escalate its aggression.
Since the fall of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi in the 1979 Iranian Revolution, Iran has stood firmly in the anti-imperialist camp as the revolution asserts itself against counterrevolutionary and imperialist forces. Since 2021, a strong economic partnership between Iran and China has played a crucial role in subverting Western efforts to economically starve the former.
Additionally, vital components for the production of military assets have been provided by China to assist Iran in its struggle against the United States. As oil prices have begun to soar here in the U.S., China has been vital in continuing to fund Iran’s oil economy in order to relieve the effects of sanctions. Overall, China is strongly dedicated to the long-term stability of Iran and has assisted the people in a critical moment in history.
The legacy of the Cuban Revolution more than speaks for itself. Just 90 nautical miles off the coast of the imperial core, the people of Cuba have held the torch of Marxism-Leninism firmly in the face of their aggressors. Now, in the face of an all-out economic war against Cuba, China has provided $80 million to assist with funding for the country’s electrical grid, on top of the massive amounts of debt forgiven by China.
China has also supported Cuba’s efforts towards energy independence, laying out ambitious plans to help the country significantly reduce its reliance on fossil fuels. These acts, alongside China’s vital provision of supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic, are just recent examples of China’s solidarity, as the two revolutionary sibling countries have been in solidarity with one another for decades.
In the face of blatant attacks from the imperialist world, the nations of Cuba, Iran, Venezuela and others have stood resolute against the imperialist war machine, and the world is witnessing only the most recent wave of imperialist military failures. From the onset of the Vietnam War to now, it has been proven time and time again that nations which embrace revolutionary socialism can and will endure the onslaught of imperialism.
And to us in the imperial core, Leninism has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that socialist revolution is the only sure path out of imperialist war. The anti-imperialist camp is forming, comrades, and we must be a part of it. So let us walk that path as our comrades have, and cheer for their victories in the struggle against imperialism!
