U.S. authorities ordered his arrest, and Alex Saab was pulled off a plane on June 12, 2020, during a refuelling stop in the Republic of Cabo Verde, an island nation off Africa’s West Coast.

Saab, a Venezuelan diplomat to the African Union, was on a humanitarian mission to Iran at the time of his seizure to arrange emergency shipments of food, medicine, and essential supplies for Venezuela.  Detained and imprisoned in total isolation and darkness in Cabo Verde for the past year, Saab has also been tortured.

Saab is battling cancer and urgently needs to be cared for by his doctors in Venezuela. MORE


June 2, 2021: International #FreeAlexSaab Solidarity Delegation on Its Way to Cabo Verde

The International #FreeAlexSaab Solidarity Committee emergency delegation is on its way to Cabo Verde to meet with kidnapped Venezuelan diplomat, Alex Saab, who has been held in isolation in the African island nation for the past year. The US is trying to extradite the Venezuelan diplomat for the “crime” of securing food for the hungry in “violation” of the illegal US sanctions.

Leading the humanitarian delegation is Cabo Verdean religious leader Bishop Felipe Teixeira, joined by Cabo Verdean politician Pericles Tavares along with human rights activists Sara Flounders of International Action Center and Roger Harris of Task Force on the Americas. MORE


June 3, 2021: Hope Rising As First International Delegation Set To Arrive Cape Verde Over Alex Saab Case

All is set for the first International Solidarity Committee emergency delegation to arrive in Cape Verde to evaluate the flagrant violation of diplomatic immunity of Venezuelan diplomat, Alex Saab, and discuss the humanitarian importance of his role in his embattled country.

The humanitarian committee led by famous Cape Verde religious leader, Bishop Felipe Teixeira, is part of an ongoing international solidarity campaign to secure the release of Saab and prevent his extradition to the United States.

June 3, 2021: First International Delegation to Arrive Cape Verde Over Alex Saab’s Detention

Cape Verde will receive the first International Solidarity Committee emergency delegation who will be in the country to assess the continous violation of diplomatic immunity of  Alex Saab, a Venezuelan diplomat, and also discuss how important his role is in the country.

The famous Cape Verde Religious Leader, Bishop Felipe Teixeira will lead the humanitarian committee which is part of an ongoing international solidarity campaign to ensure the release of saab and stop his extradition to the US.

Other members of the delegation includes, Human rights Activists, Sara Flouder of International Action Centre, Roger Harris of Task Force on the Americas and Cape Verde Politician, Pericles Tavares. MORE


3 June 2021: International humanitarian delegation to visit Cape Verde over Alex Saab detention

A team of humanitarians and human right activists in the #FreeAlexSaab Solidarity Committee will this weekend embark on an emergency visit to Cape Verde to meet with Venezuelan diplomat Alex Saab.

The delegation is made up of Cabo Verdean religious leader Bishop Felipe Teixeira, joined by Cabo Verdean politician Pericles Tavares along with human rights activists Sara Flounders of International Action Center and Roger Harris of Task Force on the Americas.

Their mission is to “evaluate Mr. Saab’s situation and discuss his truncated mission to Iran on a humanitarian mission for Venezuela”. MORE

May 27, 2021: Venezuelan diplomat kidnapped: Release Alex Saab!

Nearly a year ago, on June 12, 2020, Alex Saab was pulled off a plane at an U.S. demand for his arrest, during a refueling stop in the Republic of Cabo Verde, a small and very poor island archipelago nation off the West Coast of Africa.

Saab, a Venezuelan diplomat to the African Union, was on a humanitarian mission to Iran at the time of his seizure to arrange emergency shipments of food, medicines and essential supplies for Venezuela.
